The last thing that a parent wants to hear after a child undergoes ear tube surgery, is that the child still has an ear infection. AuriPro is a new formulation of the antibiotic ciprofloxacin that forms a gel inside the middle ear. Placed by the ear, nose and throat specialist at the time of myringotomy and ear tube surgery, the antibiotic remains in the middle ear for one week, and contains the same dose as a one week course of twice-daily ear drops.  Two placebo-controlled, randomized clinical trials demonstrated that AuriPro reduces postoperative ear drainage by 50% in the first month after tube surgery.
