Skin Care

Good skin care is an integral part of maintaining a vibrant, youthful appearance that helps you put your best face forward.  We understand the critical importance of healthy skin as an adjunct to cosmetic procedures.

Damage to your skin from sun, wind, tobacco smoke and environmental toxins can lead to fine lines, discoloration, and loss of tone. We take an individual approach to your skin and will work together with you using the latest in medical grade skin care and treatments to help you look and feel your best.

Laser & IPL Treatments

We are dedicated to delivering safe, state of the art care to our patients.  Laser treatments offered at shopping malls or laser centers are often performed by technicians under the supervision of an off- site physician.  Our physicians personally perform all laser procedures.   Before pursuing any laser or other medical procedure, be sure to ask the qualifications of the provider performing the procedure and whether they practice under the supervision of a qualified physician.

IPL or Intense Pulsed Light is a non-laser medical device that delivers gentle pulses of visible light to the skin. A series of treatments can improve the skin’s overall appearance with no “down- time.”

Photorejuvenation is an innovative technique using Intense Pulsed Light to treat the entire face, leaving skin looking younger and feeling smooth. Richmond Skin & Laser uses the Vasculight system for all Intense Pulsed Light treatments.

The Vasculight system is FDA approved to counteract sun damage, eliminate unsightly veins, remove unwanted hair, and treat rosacea and other pigmentation issues.

Laser skin resurfacing uses a single wave length of light to burn off the outermost skin layer. This treatment may require a significant recovery period. The skin is very sensitive as it recovers over a period of weeks to months.

IPL photorejuvenation uses different wavelengths of light to target areas beneath the skin. The outer layer of skin remains virtually untouched, and you are able to resume your busy lifestyle immediately.

Yes, with repeated treatments Intense Pulsed Light has been proven to successfully reduce patient’s hair dramatically. Also the hair that remains will be lighter and finer. Patients comment that the procedure is less painful than electrolysis or waxing.

The light penetrates the skin to heat the abnormally dilated blood vessels and the melanocytes that contain pigment. The heat closes the vessels and forces the pigment cells to release their pigment. The pigment is gradually cleared over the folllowing week.

IPL also heats the collagen which can improve fine wrinkles and provide some smoothing of the skin.

Unwanted hair is reduced quickly as the Intense Pulsed Light source  destroys each hair follicle.

There are no wounds and no real “downtime”, so you could even undergo treatment during your lunch break. The treatment may leave imperfections a little more noticeable for a few days, but this is only a temporary side-effect of the treatment process.

Treatment length varies from patient to patient, but one can expect to have between four and six treatments, each performed about every three weeks. Follow-up treatments may be necessary to correct new damage from the sun or aging.

A treatment session might last as little as 10 minutes or as long as 1 hour. The Intense Pulsed Energy passes through the outer layer of skin, leaving your outer skin virtually untouched.

A pulse of Intense Pulsed Energy may feel like the snap of a rubber band on the skin. Usually people do not find the pain very uncomfortable. Certain procedures including applying a cool gel and anesthetic cream to the skin alleviate discomfort.

Treatment costs vary. At the time of the consultation, our physician will assess your needs and determine a customized treatment program that is appropriate for you.
