Richmond ENT Introduces First miniCAT Scanner

The American Medical Association reported yesterday that there remains a need to reduce the dose of medical radiation exposure among children. Richmond ENT is the first center to install a dedicated low dose CT scanner specifically for evaluation of the sinuses and middle ear. With a 10 second, seated, upright scan, children can be evaluated with 1/10 the dose that is normally used in a full-sized CT scanner. The scan is performed personally by the physician and interpreted immediately in the presence of the patient and parent.  We are proud to be the first otolaryngology office in central Virginia to offer this convenient service and to maintain radiation exposure as low as reasonably achievable.  Richmond ENT is accredited to perform CT scans of the sinus and temporal bones by the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission.
