William L. Wilkes, MD (1941-2022)

William L. Wilkes, M.D.
brings compassion, enthusiasm and more than three decades of experience to patients at Richmond ENT. As a board-certified otolaryngologist, he is trained in the medical and surgical treatment of patients with diseases and disorders of the ear, nose and throat (ENT), as well as structures of the neck and face. His many years of experience allows him to provide treatment and advice for a diverse range of ear, nose and throat concerns, especially balance, hearing disorders, ear diseases and allergies. He was one of the first doctors in Richmond to offer allergy management in an ear, nose and throat office – enhancing his ability to get excellent results with his ear, nose and sinus surgeries.

While attending the University of Georgia  and working towards a degree in Chemistry, Dr. Wilkes found his love for medicine. There, he was initiated into the Alpha Epsilon Delta Premedical Honor Society. After graduating, he attended the Medical College of Georgia  and later moved to Richmond, where he completed an internship in Pediatric Medicine and a Residency in Otolaryngology at the Medical College of Virginia . He then completed a fellowship in Otology at the Richmond Children’s Hospital  and a preceptorship at the Los Angeles Foundation of Otology . In 1974, Dr. Wilkes received certification from the American Board of Otolaryngology .

Dr. Wilkes served our country in the United States Air Force , stationed in Vandenberg AFB, CA, from 1973 – 1975 and achieved the rank of Major and Chief of Otolaryngology & Allergy. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Otolaryngic Allergy , and a consulting otolaryngologist within the Divers Alert Network . He is a member of the Medical Society of Virginia  and the Richmond Academy of Medicine .

Patients experiencing ear, nose and throat problems of any kind may see Dr. Wilkes.  He served his patients for many years as a partner with ENT Specialists of Central Virginia and now operates at Medarva Stony Point Surgery Center  and at Henrico Doctors Hospital , specializing in surgery of the middle ear.

When Dr. Wilkes is not practicing medicine and surgery, he continues to work with his hands by crafting intricate, wooden model ships. He also enjoys spending his spare time with his seven grandchildren.
